July's Staff Spotlight - Sara Roorbach, Primary Prevention Specialist
How long have you been at Prevail and what is your position?
I have been with Prevail since July of 2019 and my position is a primary prevention specialist, specifically the coordinator for 100 Men.
What do you like most about working for Prevail?
The best part about working for Prevail is seeing the feedback I get from the community when I tell people where I work. Prevail has such a great reputation and impact and people in the community truly value what we do.
Who is your hero?
My hero would have to be my mom. She is such a strong woman who I’ve watched be present for friends and family members at the most difficult times. And now that I’m older she’s also become like my best friend- she is SO fun!
What is your favorite quote?
My favorite Bible verse: “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Now go in peace and be freed from suffering” Mark 5:34. I actually have it tattooed on my foot!
What would you sing at Karaoke night?
Sweet Caroline by Neil Diamond.
What motivates you the most to serve others?
The thing that motivates me the most in doing prevention work is seeing the “lightbulbs” going off for people when I’m providing education on why prevention of sexual and domestic violence is not only important, but also possible!
If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Very hard question! Either pizza, or steak and potatoes.
What is your proudest accomplishment?
I am very proud of the fact that I’ve never gotten a speeding ticket!
What animal do you most identify with, and why?
I most identify with a cat. They can be sweet but also feisty and they love to sleep.
Favorite Prevail memory?
One of my favorite memories of my time at Prevail thus far has been our all staff development days. It’s so great to have a whole day dedicated to bonding with our coworkers and working on self-development. I think these types of events have helped create the positive culture that Prevail has.
Favorite self-care practice?
- My favorite self-care practice would have to be cuddling up in my PJ’s with my favorite tee, the fireplace lit, and watching a good funny movie.
